Zone fără organisme modificate genetic
Perioada de derulare: 07/31/2006 - 01/30/2007
Activități:
1. Preparation and monitoring
Activity period: 1st of August -15th of August 2006
The first two weeks will be dedicated to create a data base of all the localities from the 4 target regions and letters explaining the campaign and asking them to show support within the local/regional government.
The Information Center on GMOs will create and distribute letters to all the mentioned local representatives.
The second part of the activity will be to monitor the trends in GMO politics and legislation related to GMO-free regions. At the present time, the national authorities are constinuously changing and up-dating legistation, according tu EU demands or to International ratified Treaties. This dinamic process is happening withouth making a concludent awarnes raising. We need to continue informing about these changes the already established GMO Free Regions. The best way to do this in the rural comunities is to post brief and visible information at the local council’s information pannel. The Information Center on GMOs will create a monthly information Poster gathering all the GMOs related legislative decisions and major events. The posters will be sent to the regions by mail and will be posted to their information panel by the local agricultural consultant.
2. Visits to Regions
Activity period: 15th of August – 30 November 2006
Following the answers and the interest shown for possible GMO Free Zones, we will establish meetings with the local representatives, officials and farmers. A team consisting of two persons from CET will visit the communes in each region in order to present to the local authorities the oportunity and the advantages coming from a possible GMO-free status of their area.
The visists will help us get in direct contact with the communities and will make the information dissemination process more efficient.
Meetings with local representatives will be organized in order to assist them with information during the decision making process.
After the declarations are signed, we will mount “GMO-free area” signs to the entrances into the villages.
3. Publishing of materials
Activity period: December 2006 - January 2007
During the time of this project several materials will be printed and distributed. These are the monthly information poster sent to the local authorities, reprinting the “Practical guide for GMO-free regions in Romania” created in the previous project and a leaflet with general overview on GMOs and GMO-free regions.
At this moment the www.gmo.ro website is used to publish information on GMO-free regions. This website will be tranformed into a “GMO-free Romania web portal” and will be used to publish news and materials such as maps, guides, posters, stickers for other NGOs or individuals who want to create their own GMO-free regions. Also, we will try to involve other organizations into this fight so their work, if any, will also be posted here.
At the declaration of each region, CET together with InfOMG will make a press release to inform the public about the new GMO-free region.
